## Why
`thread/list` can filter direct children with `parentThreadId`, but
clients cannot request an entire spawned subtree. Discovering every
descendant requires repeated client-side requests and gives up the
database's existing filtering and pagination path.
## What changed
Experimental clients can use `ancestorThreadId` to return strict
descendants at any depth while `parentThreadId` retains its direct-child
meaning. The filters are mutually exclusive, the ancestor is excluded,
and every result preserves its immediate `parentThreadId` so callers can
reconstruct the tree.
## How it works
- **Explicit relationship:** Internal list parameters distinguish direct
children from transitive descendants without changing the meaning of
`parentThreadId`.
- **Existing graph:** Persisted parent-child spawn edges remain the
source of truth, so descendant lookup needs no schema migration or
ancestry cache.
- **Indexed traversal:** A recursive SQLite query starts from the
parent-edge index, walks each generation, and applies thread filters,
sorting, and cursor pagination in the same database request.
- **Reconstructable results:** The response stays flat and normally
ordered while carrying each descendant's immediate parent.
## Verification
Ran 550 tests across the protocol, state, rollout, and thread-store
crates, then reran the four focused state, store, and app-server
descendant-listing tests after the final diff reduction. Scoped Clippy
and formatting checks passed. Stable and experimental schema generation
was checked; the stable fixtures remain unchanged while the experimental
schema includes the new field.
## Summary
A cold-resumed subagent kept its durable thread ID but could receive a
new session ID, splitting one agent tree across multiple sessions after
a restart.
Persist the root session ID in every rollout `SessionMeta`, carry it
through thread creation, and restore it before initializing the resumed
`Session` and `AgentControl`.
## Behavior
For a nested agent tree:
```text
root session R
parent thread P
child thread C
```
The child rollout stores:
```text
session_id: R
parent_thread_id: P
id: C
```
After a cold resume, the child still belongs to root session `R` while
its immediate parent remains `P`. The integration coverage uses distinct
values for all three IDs so it catches restoring the session from
`parent_thread_id`.
## Legacy rollouts
Previous rollouts have `id` but no `session_id`. `SessionMetaLine`
deserialization treats a missing `session_id` as `id`, keeping those
files readable, listable, and resumable. When a legacy subagent is
resumed through its root, that synthesized child ID no longer overrides
the inherited root-scoped `AgentControl`. New rollouts always persist
the explicit root session ID.
## Summary
- Revert #28655, restoring the thread `recencyAt` behavior introduced by
#27910.
- Move `threads_recency_at` to migration 0039 so it no longer collides
with `external_agent_config_imports` at version 0038.
- Repair databases that already applied the recency migration as version
38 by moving the matching migration-history row to version 39 before
SQLx validation. The current version-38 migration can then apply
normally.
## Validation
- `just test -p codex-state
migrations::tests::repairs_recency_migration_that_was_applied_as_version_38`
- `just test -p codex-state -p codex-rollout -p codex-thread-store -p
codex-app-server-protocol -p codex-tui`: 3,439 passed; six TUI tests
could not open the machine's existing read-only incident database at
`~/.codex/sqlite/state_5.sqlite`.
- `just fix -p codex-state`
- `just fmt`
- Verified that state migration versions are unique.
## Why
Revert #27910 to remove the newly introduced thread `recencyAt`
persistence and API behavior from `main`.
## What changed
This reverts commit `fac3158c2a783095768076489815f361fa9b0db4`,
including the state migration, thread-store propagation, app-server API
surface, generated schemas, and related tests.
## Validation
Not run before opening; relying on CI for the initial fast signal.
## Summary
Add a server-owned `recencyAt` timestamp and `recency_at` thread-list
sort key for product recency ordering while preserving the existing
meaning of `updatedAt` as the latest persisted thread mutation.
This is the server-side alternative to #27697. Rather than narrowing
`updatedAt`, clients can sort the sidebar by `recency_at` and continue
treating `updatedAt` as mutation time.
Paired Codex Apps PR:
[openai/openai#1024599](https://github.com/openai/openai/pull/1024599)
## Contract
- `recencyAt` initializes when a thread is created.
- A turn start advances `recencyAt` monotonically.
- Commentary, agent output, tool results, token/accounting updates, turn
completion, archive, unarchive, resume, and generic metadata writes do
not advance it.
- `updatedAt` retains its existing behavior and continues to advance for
persisted thread mutations.
- Current servers populate `recencyAt`; the response field is optional
in generated TypeScript so clients connected to older servers can fall
back to `updatedAt`.
- Filesystem-only fallback uses existing updated/mtime ordering when
SQLite is unavailable.
## Persistence and compatibility
Migration 0038 adds second- and millisecond-precision recency columns,
backfills them from the existing updated timestamp, creates list
indexes, and includes an insert trigger so older binaries writing to a
migrated database seed recency without causing later mutations to
advance it.
Generic metadata upserts preserve existing recency values. Turn-start
updates use a dedicated monotonic touch, and process-local allocation
keeps millisecond cursor values unique. State DB list, search, read,
filtered-list repair, rollout fallback propagation, and app-server
conversions all carry the new field.
## API
`Thread` responses include:
```ts
recencyAt?: number
```
`thread/list` and `thread/search` accept:
```json
{ "sortKey": "recency_at" }
```
Generated TypeScript and JSON schemas are included.
## Validation
- `just test -p codex-state` — 146 passed
- `just test -p codex-rollout` — 69 passed
- `just test -p codex-thread-store` — 81 passed
- `just test -p codex-app-server-protocol` — 231 passed
- Focused app-server list ordering, response mapping, archive/unarchive,
and resume lifecycle tests passed
- Scoped `just fix` for state, rollout, thread-store,
app-server-protocol, and app-server
- `just fmt`
- `git diff --check`
- Independent correctness, simplicity, elegance, security, and
test-quality reviews; actionable ordering, lifecycle, query-projection,
and timestamp-uniqueness findings were addressed
## Why
Clients that display or coordinate spawned subagents need an
authoritative snapshot of a thread's immediate spawned children when
they connect to app-server or recover after missing live events.
`thread/list` cannot query by parent, so clients must otherwise scan
unrelated threads or reconstruct relationships from rollout history and
transient events.
The direct spawn relationship already exists in persisted
`thread_spawn_edges` state. Review and Guardian threads do not
participate in that lifecycle and are intentionally outside this
filter's scope.
## What changed
This adds an experimental `parentThreadId` filter to `thread/list`.
Parent-filtered requests return direct spawned children from persisted
state while preserving the existing response shape, explicit filters,
sorting, and timestamp-only cursor behavior. The lookup does not read
rollout transcripts or recursively return descendants.
Supersedes #25112 with the narrower `thread/list` filter approach.
## How it works
1. An experimental client passes a valid thread ID as `parentThreadId`.
2. App-server routes the list through the existing thread-store and
state-database boundaries.
3. SQLite selects threads whose IDs have a direct persisted spawn edge
from that parent.
4. Omitted provider and source filters include all values; explicit
filters keep ordinary `thread/list` semantics.
5. Grandchildren, Review threads, and Guardian threads are excluded.
## Verification
State (144 tests), rollout (69 tests), and focused app-server
thread-list (31 tests) suites passed. Scoped Clippy checks and
repository formatting also passed. Coverage includes direct spawned
children, omitted grandchildren, pagination, malformed IDs, mixed source
kinds, explicit filters, and operation without rollout files.
This PR brought to you via VS Code rather than Codex...
- opened `codex-rs/app-server/tests/common/mcp_process.rs`
- put the cursor on `McpServer`
- hit `F2` and renamed the symbol to `TestAppServer`
- went to the file tree
- hit enter and renamed `mcp_process.rs` to `test_app_server.rs`
- ran **Save All Files** from the Command Palette
- ran `just fmt`
The End
(Admittedly, most of the local variables for `TestAppServer` are still
named `mcp`, though.)
## Why
This PR
https://github.com/openai/codex/pull/24161#discussion_r3325692763
revealed a subagent data modeling issue, where we overloaded
`forked_from_id` to also mean `parent_thread_id`. That's incorrect since
guardian and review subagents can be a subagent and NOT fork the main
thread's history.
The solution here is to explicitly store a new `parent_thread_id` on
`SessionMeta`, alongside `forked_from_id` which already exists. While
we're at it, also expose it in the app-server protocol on the `Thread`
object.
A thread->subagent relationship and a fork of thread history are
orthogonal concepts.
## What Changed
- Added top-level `parent_thread_id` persistence on `SessionMeta` and
runtime/session plumbing through `SessionConfiguredEvent`,
`CodexSpawnArgs`, `SessionConfiguration`, `ThreadConfigSnapshot`,
`TurnContext`, and `ModelClient`.
- Made turn metadata, request headers, analytics, and subagent-start
events read the separate runtime/top-level parent field instead of
deriving general parent lineage from `SessionSource` or
`forked_from_thread_id`.
- Passed parent lineage separately at delegated subagent, review,
guardian, agent-job, and multi-agent spawn construction sites;
copied-history fork lineage remains derived only from `InitialHistory`.
- Persisted and exposed parent lineage through rollout/thread-store
projections and app-server v2 `Thread.parentThreadId`.
- Updated app-server README text and regenerated app-server schema
fixtures for the additive `parentThreadId` response field.
## Summary
Adds an optional `clientId` field to app-server v2 `UserInput` and
carries it through the core `UserInput` model so clients can correlate
echoed user input items without relying on payload equality.
## Details
- Adds `client_id: Option<String>` to core `UserInput` variants.
- Exposes the v2 app-server field as `clientId` on the wire and in
generated TypeScript.
- Preserves the id when converting between app-server v2 and core
protocol types.
- Regenerates app-server schema fixtures.
## Validation
- `just fmt`
- `just write-app-server-schema`
- `cargo test -p codex-app-server-protocol`
- `cargo test -p codex-protocol`
- `just fix -p codex-app-server-protocol`
- `just fix -p codex-protocol`
- `git diff --check`
## Summary
- make rollout content search prefilter rollout files case-insensitively
- keep the no-ripgrep fallback scan and visible snippet matcher aligned
with that behavior
- cover a lowercase `thread/search` query matching mixed-case
conversation content
## Why
The rollout-backed `thread/search` path used exact string matching in
both its `rg` prefilter and semantic snippet generation. A content
result could be missed solely because the query casing did not match the
stored conversation text.
## Validation
- `just fmt`
- `cargo test -p codex-app-server thread_search_returns_content_matches`
- `cargo test -p codex-rollout`
- `just bazel-lock-update`
- `just bazel-lock-check`
- `cargo build -p codex-cli`
- launched a local Electron dev instance with the rebuilt CLI binary
## Summary
- add experimental `thread/search` for local rollout-backed thread
search using `rg` over JSONL rollouts
- return search-specific result rows with optional previews instead of
storing preview data on `StoredThread` or ordinary `Thread` responses
- keep `thread/list` separate from full-content search and document the
new app-server surface
## Testing
- `cargo test -p codex-app-server-protocol`
- `cargo test -p codex-app-server
thread_search_returns_content_and_title_matches -- --nocapture`
## Why
`session_id` and `thread_id` are separate identities after #20437, but
app-server only surfaced `sessionId` on the `thread/start`,
`thread/resume`, and `thread/fork` response envelopes. Other
thread-bearing surfaces such as `thread/list`, `thread/read`,
`thread/started`, `thread/rollback`, `thread/metadata/update`, and
`thread/unarchive` either lacked the grouping key or forced clients to
special-case those three responses.
Making `sessionId` part of the reusable `Thread` payload gives every v2
API surface one place to expose session-tree identity.
## Mental model
1. thread.sessionId lives on `Thread`
2. It is a view/runtime identity for the current live session tree, not
durable stored lineage metadata
3. When app-server has a live loaded thread, it copies the real value
from core’s session_configured.session_id
4. When it only has stored/unloaded data, it falls back to
thread.sessionId = thread.id
## What changed
- Added `sessionId` to the v2
[`Thread`](https://github.com/openai/codex/blob/8fc9e9b4cf81b6f61d432e71f1eb266f6f104b63/codex-rs/app-server-protocol/src/protocol/v2/thread_data.rs#L105-L109).
- Removed the duplicate top-level `sessionId` fields from
`thread/start`, `thread/resume`, and `thread/fork`; clients should now
read `response.thread.sessionId`.
- Populated `thread.sessionId` when building live thread responses,
replaying loaded threads, and returning stored-thread summaries so the
field is present across start, resume, fork, list, read, rollback,
metadata-update, unarchive, and `thread/started` paths. See
[`load_thread_from_resume_source_or_send_internal`](https://github.com/openai/codex/blob/8fc9e9b4cf81b6f61d432e71f1eb266f6f104b63/codex-rs/app-server/src/request_processors/thread_processor.rs#L2824-L2918)
and
[`thread_from_stored_thread`](https://github.com/openai/codex/blob/8fc9e9b4cf81b6f61d432e71f1eb266f6f104b63/codex-rs/app-server/src/request_processors/thread_processor.rs#L3671-L3719).
- Preserved the stored-thread fallback: if a thread has not been loaded
into a live session tree yet, `thread.sessionId` falls back to
`thread.id`; once the thread is live again, the field reports the active
session tree root.
- Regenerated the JSON/TypeScript schemas and updated the app-server
README examples to show
[`thread.sessionId`](https://github.com/openai/codex/blob/8fc9e9b4cf81b6f61d432e71f1eb266f6f104b63/codex-rs/app-server/README.md#L306-L310)
on the thread object.
## Why
SQLite state was still being opened from consumer paths, including lazy
`OnceCell`-backed thread-store call sites. That let one process
construct multiple state DB connections for the same Codex home, which
makes SQLite lock contention and `database is locked` failures much
easier to hit.
State DB lifetime should be chosen by main-like entrypoints and tests,
then passed through explicitly. Consumers should use the supplied
`Option<StateDbHandle>` or `StateDbHandle` and keep their existing
filesystem fallback or error behavior when no handle is available.
The startup path also needs to keep the rollout crate in charge of
SQLite state initialization. Opening `codex_state::StateRuntime`
directly bypasses rollout metadata backfill, so entrypoints should
initialize through `codex_rollout::state_db` and receive a handle only
after required rollout backfills have completed.
## What Changed
- Initialize the state DB in main-like entrypoints for CLI, TUI,
app-server, exec, MCP server, and the thread-manager sample.
- Pass `Option<StateDbHandle>` through `ThreadManager`,
`LocalThreadStore`, app-server processors, TUI app wiring, rollout
listing/recording, personality migration, shell snapshot cleanup,
session-name lookup, and memory/device-key consumers.
- Remove the lazy local state DB wrapper from the thread store so
non-test consumers use only the supplied handle or their existing
fallback path.
- Make `codex_rollout::state_db::init` the local state startup path: it
opens/migrates SQLite, runs rollout metadata backfill when needed, waits
for concurrent backfill workers up to a bounded timeout, verifies
completion, and then returns the initialized handle.
- Keep optional/non-owning SQLite helpers, such as remote TUI local
reads, as open-only paths that do not run startup backfill.
- Switch app-server startup from direct
`codex_state::StateRuntime::init` to the rollout state initializer so
app-server cannot skip rollout backfill.
- Collapse split rollout lookup/list APIs so callers use the normal
methods with an optional state handle instead of `_with_state_db`
variants.
- Restore `getConversationSummary(ThreadId)` to delegate through
`ThreadStore::read_thread` instead of a LocalThreadStore-specific
rollout path special case.
- Keep DB-backed rollout path lookup keyed on the DB row and file
existence, without imposing the filesystem filename convention on
existing DB rows.
- Verify readable DB-backed rollout paths against `session_meta.id`
before returning them, so a stale SQLite row that points at another
thread's JSONL falls back to filesystem search and read-repairs the DB
row.
- Keep `debug prompt-input` filesystem-only so a one-off debug command
does not initialize or backfill SQLite state just to print prompt input.
- Keep goal-session test Codex homes alive only in the goal-specific
helper, rather than leaking tempdirs from the shared session test
helper.
- Update tests and call sites to pass explicit state handles where DB
behavior is expected and explicit `None` where filesystem-only behavior
is intended.

Focused coverage added in `codex-rollout`:
- `recorder::tests::state_db_init_backfills_before_returning` verifies
the rollout metadata row exists before startup init returns.
- `state_db::tests::try_init_waits_for_concurrent_startup_backfill`
verifies startup waits for another worker to finish backfill instead of
disabling the handle for the process.
-

verifies startup does not hang indefinitely on a stuck backfill lease.
-
`tests::find_thread_path_accepts_existing_state_db_path_without_canonical_filename`
verifies DB-backed lookup accepts valid existing rollout paths even when
the filename does not include the thread UUID.
-
`tests::find_thread_path_falls_back_when_db_path_points_to_another_thread`
verifies DB-backed lookup ignores a stale row whose existing path
belongs to another thread and read-repairs the row after filesystem
fallback.
Focused coverage updated in `codex-core`:
- `rollout_list_find::find_prefers_sqlite_path_by_id` now uses a
DB-preferred rollout file with matching `session_meta.id`, so it still
verifies that valid SQLite paths win without depending on stale/empty
rollout contents.
`cargo test -p codex-app-server thread_list_respects_search_term_filter
-- --test-threads=1 --nocapture` was attempted locally but timed out
waiting for the app-server test harness `initialize` response before
reaching the changed thread-list code path.
`bazel test //codex-rs/thread-store:thread-store-unit-tests
--test_output=errors` was attempted locally after the thread-store fix,
but this container failed before target analysis while fetching `v8+`
through BuildBuddy/direct GitHub. The equivalent local crate coverage,
including `cargo test -p codex-thread-store`, passes.
A plain local `cargo check -p codex-rollout -p codex-app-server --tests`
also requires system `libcap.pc` for `codex-linux-sandbox`; the
follow-up app-server check above used `CODEX_SKIP_VENDORED_BWRAP=1` in
this container.
## Summary
- Teach app-server `thread/list` to accept either a single `cwd` or an
array of cwd filters, returning threads whose recorded session cwd
matches any requested path
- Add `useStateDbOnly` as an explicit opt-in fast path for callers that
want to answer `thread/list` from SQLite without scanning JSONL rollout
files
- Preserve backwards compatibility: by default, `thread/list` still
scans JSONL rollouts and repairs SQLite state
- Wire the new cwd array and SQLite-only options through app-server,
local/remote thread-store, rollout listing, generated TypeScript/schema
fixtures, proto output, and docs
## Test Plan
- `cargo test -p codex-app-server-protocol`
- `cargo test -p codex-rollout`
- `cargo test -p codex-thread-store`
- `cargo test -p codex-app-server thread_list`
- `just fmt`
- `just fix -p codex-app-server-protocol -p codex-rollout -p
codex-thread-store -p codex-app-server`
- `cargo build -p codex-cli --bin codex`
To improve performance of UI loads from the app, add two main
improvements:
1. The `thread/list` api now gets a `sortDirection` request field and a
`backwardsCursor` to the response, which lets you paginate forwards and
backwards from a window. This lets you fetch the first few items to
display immediately while you paginate to fill in history, then can
paginate "backwards" on future loads to catch up with any changes since
the last UI load without a full reload of the entire data set.
2. Added a new `thread/turns/list` api which also has sortDirection and
backwardsCursor for the same behavior as `thread/list`, allowing you the
same small-fetch for immediate display followed by background fill-in
and resync catchup.
Builds on top of #17659
Move the filesystem + sqlite thread listing-related operations inside of
a local ThreadStore implementation and call ThreadStore from the places
that used to perform these filesystem/sqlite operations.
This is the first of a series of PRs that will implement the rest of the
local ThreadStore.
Testing:
- added unit tests for the thread store implementation
- adjusted some unit tests in the realtime + personality packages whose
callsites changed. Specifically I'm trying to hide ThreadMetadata inside
of the local implementation and make ThreadMetadata a sqlite
implementation detail concern rather than a public interface, preferring
the more generate StoredThread interface instead
- added a corner case test for the personality migration package that
wasn't covered by the existing test suite
- adjust the behavior of searched thread listing to run the existing
local rollout repair/backfill pass _before_ querying SQLite results, so
callers using ThreadStore::list_threads do not miss matches after a
partial metadata warm-up
## Why
`argument-comment-lint` was green in CI even though the repo still had
many uncommented literal arguments. The main gap was target coverage:
the repo wrapper did not force Cargo to inspect test-only call sites, so
examples like the `latest_session_lookup_params(true, ...)` tests in
`codex-rs/tui_app_server/src/lib.rs` never entered the blocking CI path.
This change cleans up the existing backlog, makes the default repo lint
path cover all Cargo targets, and starts rolling that stricter CI
enforcement out on the platform where it is currently validated.
## What changed
- mechanically fixed existing `argument-comment-lint` violations across
the `codex-rs` workspace, including tests, examples, and benches
- updated `tools/argument-comment-lint/run-prebuilt-linter.sh` and
`tools/argument-comment-lint/run.sh` so non-`--fix` runs default to
`--all-targets` unless the caller explicitly narrows the target set
- fixed both wrappers so forwarded cargo arguments after `--` are
preserved with a single separator
- documented the new default behavior in
`tools/argument-comment-lint/README.md`
- updated `rust-ci` so the macOS lint lane keeps the plain wrapper
invocation and therefore enforces `--all-targets`, while Linux and
Windows temporarily pass `-- --lib --bins`
That temporary CI split keeps the stricter all-targets check where it is
already cleaned up, while leaving room to finish the remaining Linux-
and Windows-specific target-gated cleanup before enabling
`--all-targets` on those runners. The Linux and Windows failures on the
intermediate revision were caused by the wrapper forwarding bug, not by
additional lint findings in those lanes.
## Validation
- `bash -n tools/argument-comment-lint/run.sh`
- `bash -n tools/argument-comment-lint/run-prebuilt-linter.sh`
- shell-level wrapper forwarding check for `-- --lib --bins`
- shell-level wrapper forwarding check for `-- --tests`
- `just argument-comment-lint`
- `cargo test` in `tools/argument-comment-lint`
- `cargo test -p codex-terminal-detection`
## Follow-up
- Clean up remaining Linux-only target-gated callsites, then switch the
Linux lint lane back to the plain wrapper invocation.
- Clean up remaining Windows-only target-gated callsites, then switch
the Windows lint lane back to the plain wrapper invocation.
- create `codex-git-utils` and move the shared git helpers into it with
file moves preserved for diff readability
- move the `GitInfo` helpers out of `core` so stacked rollout work can
depend on the shared crate without carrying its own git info module

This PR add an URI-based system to reference agents within a tree. This
comes from a sync between research and engineering.
The main agent (the one manually spawned by a user) is always called
`/root`. Any sub-agent spawned by it will be `/root/agent_1` for example
where `agent_1` is chosen by the model.
Any agent can contact any agents using the path.
Paths can be used either in absolute or relative to the calling agents
Resume is not supported for now on this new path
Motivation
- Today, a newly connected client has no direct way to determine the
current runtime status of threads from read/list responses alone.
- This forces clients to infer state from transient events, which can
lead to stale or inconsistent UI when reconnecting or attaching late.
Changes
- Add `status` to `thread/read` responses.
- Add `statuses` to `thread/list` responses.
- Emit `thread/status/changed` notifications with `threadId` and the new
status.
- Track runtime status for all loaded threads and default unknown
threads to `idle`.
- Update protocol/docs/tests/schema fixtures for the revised API.
Testing
- Validated protocol API changes with automated protocol tests and
regenerated schema/type fixtures.
- Validated app-server behavior with unit and integration test suites,
including status transitions and notifications.
Add support for returning threads by either `created_at` OR `updated_at`
descending. Previously core always returned threads ordered by
`created_at`.
This PR:
- updates core to be able to list threads by `updated_at` OR
`created_at` descending based on what the caller wants
- also update `thread/list` in app-server to expose this (default to
`created_at` if not specified)
All existing codepaths (app-server, TUI) still default to `created_at`,
so no behavior change is expected with this PR.
**Implementation**
To sort by `updated_at` is a bit nontrivial (whereas `created_at` is
easy due to the way we structure the folders and filenames on disk,
which are all based on `created_at`).
The most naive way to do this without introducing a cache file or sqlite
DB (which we have to implement/maintain) is to scan files in reverse
`created_at` order on disk, and look at the file's mtime (last modified
timestamp according to the filesystem) until we reach `MAX_SCAN_FILES`
(currently set to 10,000). Then, we can return the most recent N
threads.
Based on some quick and dirty benchmarking on my machine with ~1000
rollout files, calling `thread/list` with limit 50, the `updated_at`
path is slower as expected due to all the I/O:
- updated-at: average 103.10 ms
- created-at: average 41.10 ms
Those absolute numbers aren't a big deal IMO, but we can certainly
optimize this in a followup if needed by introducing more state stored
on disk.
**Caveat**
There's also a limitation in that any files older than `MAX_SCAN_FILES`
will be excluded, which means if a user continues a REALLY old thread,
it's possible to not be included. In practice that should not be too big
of an issue.
If a user makes...
- 1000 rollouts/day → threads older than 10 days won't show up
- 100 rollouts/day → ~100 days
If this becomes a problem for some reason, even more motivation to
implement an updated_at cache.
This caused some conversations to not appear when they otherwise should.
Prior to this change, `thread/list`/`list_conversations_common` would:
- Fetch N conversations from `RolloutRecorder::list_conversations`
- Then it would filter those (like by the provided `model_providers`)
- This would make it potentially return less than N items.
With this change:
- `list_conversations_common` now continues fetching more conversations
from `RolloutRecorder::list_conversations` until it "fills up" the
`requested_page_size`.
- Ultimately this means that clients can rely on getting eg 20
conversations if they request 20 conversations.
A partner is consuming our generated JSON schema bundle for app-server
and identified a few issues:
- not all polymorphic / one-of types have a type descriminator
- `"$ref": "#/definitions/v2/SandboxPolicy"` is missing
- "Option<>" is an invalid schema name, and also unnecessary
This PR:
- adds the type descriminator to the various types that are missing it
except for `SessionSource` and `SubAgentSource` because they are
serialized to disk (adding this would break backwards compat for
resume), and they should not be necessary to consume for an integration
with app-server.
- removes the special handling in `export.rs` of various types like
SandboxPolicy, which turned out to be unnecessary and incorrect
- filters out `Option<>` which was auto-generated for request params
that don't need a body
For context, we currently pull in wayyy more types than we need through
the `EventMsg` god object which we are **not** planning to expose in API
v2 (this is how I suspect `SessionSource` and `SubAgentSource` are being
pulled in). But until we have all the necessary v2 notifications in
place that will allow us to remove `EventMsg`, we will keep exporting it
for now.
Add the following fields to Thread:
```
pub preview: String,
pub model_provider: String,
pub created_at: i64,
```
Will prob need another PR once this lands:
https://github.com/openai/codex/pull/6337
Implements:
```
thread/list
thread/start
thread/resume
thread/archive
```
along with their integration tests. These are relatively light wrappers
around the existing core logic, and changes to core logic are minimal.
However, an improvement made for developer ergonomics:
- `thread/start` and `thread/resume` automatically attaches a
conversation listener internally, so clients don't have to make a
separate `AddConversationListener` call like they do today.
For consistency, also updated `model/list` and `feedback/upload` (naming
conventions, list API params).
